More Than 150 Years of History
Irvington’s roots go back to the 1800s.
The community was originally known as Washington Corners and had developed into an established town by the late 1800s, with shops, blacksmiths, a hotel, and other local businesses.
In 1956, Irvington joined Centerville, Niles, Mission San Jose, and Warm Springs to form the City of Fremont.
Today, Irvington remains one of Fremont’s five historic districts, with Five Corners continuing to represent its historic center.

Irvington reflects the extraordinary diversity found throughout Fremont.
Because Irvington is a neighborhood rather than a separate Census-designated city, demographic statistics are generally reported for Fremont as a whole.
